As Spring rolls in, the Little Hall is opening its doors and welcoming visitors again. We will be open every afternoon this season, from 1pm-4pm, with group visits available in the mornings.
This season will be a special year for the Hall as it marks both the centenary of the Gayer-Anderson twins, Robert and Thomas, purchasing the property in 1924 as well as the fiftieth anniversary of Historic Suffolk (previously known as the Suffolk Buildings Preservation Trust) taking over ownership of the property in 1974 and opening it for the public as it is today. As part of honouring these anniversaries we are currently developing ideas to restore the Hall’s furnishings and décor to reflect the vibrancy of the interiors during the twin’s residency. Alongside this we are also working on redisplaying some of our older objects, which date back to the eighth and ninth centuries. We hope, once in place, these new displays will offer visitors a better insight into the objects’ significance to the Little Hall – and to Lavenham – as well as their own complex histories, and will be an enjoyable addition to the hall’s existing collection displays. Anyone interested in learning more about this project or who would like to volunteer assistance can contact our curator Michael Sutherill.
In addition to our project developments, we also have several community events to look forward to as the weather gets nicer, such as our Artisan Market from Friday 24th May to Monday 27th May, which will host a variety of local arts and crafts vendors, and participation in the village’s ‘Hidden Gardens’ event on Sunday 9th June. Make Little Hall a destination this year.
